The City

Acts 8:5

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.

Long shadows cast their shade upon me as I walk through the city

A cold wind hit my back.  Shivering, I continue on.

His moon, His light, guiding me through all these different signs, cars, buildings, glass, of the city

Fear touches my shoulder.  My generation passes me by, tormented day and night.  It’s getting harder to breathe.

It touches me again.  Despair.  I run to my secret place, what can I do?  I’m still lonely.

“Change what’s around you, show them my Light”.  I heard the whisper, but I only see the city

The dawn rose.  Warm, mercy new, hope restored, I want to see more from my city

I see the eyes of my people, all crying out for an escape.  It needs a savior, my city

Who does it belong to?  Who do they need?  How can they be set free?

His grace, His healing, new dreams, new passion, the day is bright, in my city

Jesus Christ, our city, God Almighty, His city, Holy Spirit, take over,

This City!
